I’ve counted macros diligently for over a year (14 months to be exact!) and have seen incredible results. I truly believe the credit for my body’s transformation is thanks to macro counting and the Ledbetter program.
During the past 14 months, I learned how to fuel my body and not to be afraid of certain foods. I’ve eaten more calories than I thought possible and maintained a lean figure while also building muscle! As your typical type-A personality, logging food isn’t hard for me and I like keeping track of everything. I don’t mind weighing out my food and taking a few minutes each day to plan.
That being said, macros get hard when you’re BUSY and harder to control when you have “unknowns”. I’m going on a vacation in Europe for 10 days later this month, so I already knew I wouldn’t be able to count macros for the trip. Then when I got engaged at the end of June, my July calendar just went CRAZY! There are so many parties, social events, weddings, and celebrations that it is pretty much impossible for me to count macros.
Actually, I shouldn’t say it’s impossible because I could still make it work, but to be honest it’s just not worth the pressure and stress to try and make all my macros fit perfectly every day. Sometimes you just have to be realistic with yourself and accept that you aren’t in as much control (which is hard for me!).
Because of all the craziness, I’ve decided to take a break from macros this month. I’ll still loosely be tracking as well as posting food diaries, but I won’t be planning out every single thing.
By the way, I do not plan to use this as an excuse to eat poorly and overeat every day! I am still going to listen to my body and eat nutritious, whole foods 80% of the time. It takes practice, but I know I can do it!
I also plan to go back to stricter macros when August rolls around. If I feel like I’ve gained a little fat from this month of intuitive eating, I might even do a small cut. After all, this girl has a wedding to use as motivation 🙂 !
